Meet Kathryn Bernardo’s Happy Skin

Last August, actress, author, and entrepreneur Kathryn Bernardo is adding a new title to

her growing list of achievements: makeup collaborator. Homegrown beauty brand

Happy Skin, the pioneer of skin-caring makeup, created an all-new diffusion cosmetics

line called Generation Happy Skin with Kathryn.

For Kathryn, being hands-on with creating a makeup line has always been a dream.

“And ever since, I’ve liked the quality of Happy Skin’s makeup,” she adds. “It’s very

important for me that I believe in the brand.” Aside from being able to share herself in a

completely different way, Kathryn sees that a makeup collaboration is the perfect

avenue to express her belief that simple can be beautiful.

This is why Generation Happy Skin speaks to a new breed of women who believe that

good skin is a priority and who are after effortless, everyday makeup that allow them to

showcase this truth. “You can be a college student or a working mom, all kinds of

people fall under Generation Happy Skin,” explains Kathryn. “We all want something

that’s easy to use and effortless. You don’t need a lot to look beautiful.” The inaugural

collection of Generation Happy Skin, which took two years to materialize, was

developed specifically to reflect Kathryn’s personality: it’s authentic, ace, and

accessible.

Through her family-first values and classic approach to beauty and fashion, Kathryn has

always led her personal and celebrity life with authenticity. Even though lot of out-of-the-

box thinking are celebrated these days just for the sake of being out of the box, Kathryn

keeps herself grounded in who she is: completely confident in her simplicity.

Inspired by this, the six-piece Generation Happy Skin collection—compared to its big

sister Happy Skin Cosmetics—showcases more dressed-down packaging and

straightforward product names. No detail was left unnoticed by Kathryn, which made the

collaborative experience so much more fulfilling. She was highly involved when it came

to deciding on the collection’s pastel color palette, and personally wanted the shade

names—like Freedom, Courage, and Love—to inspire others to stay true to who they

are. “Personally, I like being simple. I like doing my makeup, but I don’t like changing my

face,” Kathryn explains. “That’s why I want my fans to learn how to also feel and look

beautiful without looking too made up.”

A non-negotiable for Kathryn for this collaboration? That every makeup product would

be influenced by her personal beauty routine—products that she would be proud to use

and even recommend herself. So, it wasn’t enough for her to create formulas and

packaging that just work—they had to work well. That’s why Generation Happy Skin,

like all of Happy Skin’s products, are created only in beauty capitals like Korea and

Taiwan. “With Generation Happy Skin, I know that I can look beautiful and [the makeup]

won’t damage my skin. That’s hard to find in makeup nowadays,” Kathryn shares.

Happy Skin worked closely with Kathryn to turn her dream products into a reality and to

ensure very specific benefits in each product. Kathryn diligently tested all the formulas

and shades, even wearing it to different shoots and show tapings. Based on her

direction, Generation Happy Skin included a natural-finish powder foundation, a long-

lasting matte lipstick, a highly-pigmented lip & cheek tint, a super blendable powder

blush, a volumizing, no-clump mascara, and a universal, easy-to-use brow liner.

#KathXHappySkin: Accessible to Everyone

A proud morena, Kathryn wanted every shade in Generation Happy Skin to flatter a

wide range of skin tones. “Problem ko before was to find the perfect makeup for me,

because I’m morena. I’m very proud that with this collaboration with Happy Skin is

perfect for different skin tones, including morena girls,” says Kathryn.

Another essential for her: that the products had accessible price points, so that as many

of her fans can get their hands on the new line. After securing ace formulas, both

Kathryn and Happy Skin worked hard to make sure that not a single product in

Generation Happy Skin would be priced above P499.

Ready to meet Kathryn’s Happy Skin?

These are the products that I got after the event:

One word, BLENDABLE. Yup, it's so easy to blend on your cheeks. It also has a good color payoff and the color is also buildable. This lip and cheek tint doesn't stay on the dry areas of my lips but I still suggest to exfoliate your lips before applying any lip products to have a smooth application. Perfect for your everyday makeup look. If you're always in a hurry, this product is perfect for you!

* Kiss & Bloom Water Lip & Cheek Tint in Dainty, Fearless, Prim & Serene

(P299) – Highly pigmented with a natural watercolor finish. In all her shoots,

Kathryn applies her own lip tint. Her rule? A little goes a long way and always

make sure to blend for a natural finish.

At first I had a hard time blending it on my cheeks because it was really pigmented when applied with a brush but with the right tools and technique, it will definitely give you rosy cheeks.

* Instant Glow Longwear Powder Blush in Freedom and Love (P399) – Gives

a blendable, radiant-looking flush. Kathryn fell in love with and approved the very

first samples of both blushes.

I had high hopes for this mascara. I was hoping that this mascara will not give me "panda eyes". But after hours of wearing it, it did gave me the "panda eyes" but this one doesn't smudge so bad under my eyes unlike the other mascaras I have tried. (having "panda eyes" under my eyes is just a normal thing for me whenever I use mascaras.) This one is manageable and I will still use this everyday because it gives my lashes some volume.

* Extra Drama Volumizing Mascara (P499) – For dramatic, yet natural-looking

lashes. Mascara is the one makeup product Kathryn can’t live without. It was only

after three sample passes that she gave the go signal to produce her dream

formula.

This product is my favorite among all the products in this collection. It gives me that natural look for my eyebrows. The tip is so thin and with that you can draw on strokes on your brows and make it look natural. It has a buildable color so you don't have to worry about making your brows look like you used a marker. haha! It is sweat-proof indeed! I tried to use this when I went swimming with my friends and my brows are still on fleek after swimming. Yas, girl!
